Debrecen Csokonai National Theater monodrama

The time has come for Zsóka Molnár, the protagonist of this play to become a dramatic heroine. Zsóka Molnár was born during the war and she was a teenager during the suffocating era of the 1950s. With her middle-class background she becomes the wife of a party secretary. She is the caretaker of the local history memorial building in her husband’s hometown and the regime change leaves her intact. In the historical process she could become a heroine or have a tragic fate as well, however, her mediocrity, personal isolation, betrayal and the monotony of daily life preserves her in the state she was born. The woman’s sense of duty proves to be stronger than the wish for self-expression, although Zsóka does not entirely lack the latter. When alone withher zebra finches, she often sings nurturing odes or passionate arias about her grievances
