The Trakai Royal Theatre was established in 1991 as part of the Palace of Culture in the Lithuanian town of Trakai. Since its inception, it has staged more than 37 productions with more than 50 actors. The theatre has taken part in many festivals of amateur theatres in Lithuania and has received several awards at both regional and national festivals, including prizes for Best Acting. It has also performed at festivals in Poland and Belarus, and it has toured in Georgia. The Trakai theatre represented Lithuanian amateur drama at the World Festival in Norway. The theatre is the organizer of the Kanapé amateur theatre festival and its activities currently involve about 20 members.
